The trial court with general jurisdiction is the District Court. Sixty-three (63) of our sixty-four (64) parishes are divided into forty (40) judicial districts. In addition, the Parish of Orleans has its own court system. Each judicial district has at least one whole parish in it, but never more than three (3) parishes. Natchitoches Parish alone makes up the Tenth (10 th) Judicial District, whose address is as follows:

Most cases appealed from the District Court are heard by the Court of Appeal for that district. In each Court of Appeal, a majority of the judges sitting in a case must concur to render judgment.

Natchitoches Parish , as well as the parishes of Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Catahoula, Concordia, Evangeline, Grant, Iberia, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, LaSalle, Rapides, Sabine, St. Landry, St. Martin, Vermilion and Vernon, are under the jurisdiction of the Third Circuit Court of Appeal, whose address is as follows:

Traffic Department

The Traffic Department is a part of the Criminal Department in Natchitoches Parish. The Clerk’s Office is responsible for the filing of all traffic citations issued by the Louisiana State Police, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Department, and the various municipalities contained within the Tenth Judicial District in Natchitoches Parish.

The citations are for both moving and non-moving violations that fall under the Louisiana Code of Criminal & Traffic Procedure.

The Clerk’s Office issues all subpoenas for cases placed on the court docket by the Natchitoches Parish District Attorney.

Note: The Natchitoches Parish Clerk of Court’s Office does not set any fines, nor does it collect fines.
